Think about a dream that you currently have in your own life. Do you have the confidence in yourself that you’ll achieve it? Or, do you just see it as a pipe dream that you hope ends up panning out on its own in the future?

You might not realise that each of these mindsets can impact the success that you ultimately see in life. And, if you think you can’t achieve or do something, then you definitely won’t. Let’s talk about why.

The Importance of Positivity

When it comes to chasing your dreams and becoming the person you’ve always dreamed of, positivity can be a massive driving force. Think about it – Even just a little motivation, even from yourself, can be just what you need to keep moving toward your own goal.

So, positive self-talk is critical.

Think about what you want to do in life. Now, think about what’s stopping you. Is it a lack of belief in your abilities? Do you always tell yourself that you can’t do it? Do you just not have much self-esteem at all?

Well, shift that focus entirely!

Remind yourself repeatedly about the qualities and skills you do have to offer. Tell yourself that you can reach these goals and have what it takes to succeed in life. Eventually, you’ll begin to believe the statements you’re telling yourself and see success as a result.

Just remember that you truly have to believe these thoughts, and it might take a little while for you to believe them genuinely. Give it some time and see how your mentality shifts.

Self-Fulfilling Prophecies

Self-fulfilling prophecies are considered somewhat of a pseudoscience these days. That means there’s no objective evidence that thinking that something will happen will lead to it happening in the future.

Or vice versa.

Let’s say that you have a dream in mind, and you’ve had this dream for a few months, a few years, or even a few decades. Yet, you continuously tell yourself that you’ll never be able to achieve this dream of yours.

So, you don’t make an effort to achieve it.

Years later, you still haven’t achieved this dream. When asked why you haven’t reached it, you don’t feel a sense of disappointment. After all, you did tell everybody that you wouldn’t achieve it, right?

In a way, you’re looking to prove yourself right, even if it’s not the goal you intended.

Backing Out Early

Having a dream is glorious and can be incredibly motivating for a lot of people. Yet, you might eventually convince yourself that your specific goal is unrealistic or simply unattainable as it is right now.

Since you’re constantly putting yourself down and telling yourself that you’re not capable of achieving this dream, you stop trying for it altogether. You’d instead ultimately push your goal to the side than risk failure.

While this might save you the heartache of failing right now, there’s a good chance that you’ll look back later in your life with a feeling of regret for not trying at all.

After all, it’s better to try and fail than not to try at all.

Final Thoughts

If you want to achieve your dreams, you need to work on shifting your mindset. If you think you can’t do something, then you won’t be able to do it. But, the motivation and the drive to succeed has to come from within. So, stop worrying about proving yourself right and build up your positivity. Make an active effort to achieve your dreams.
