Self-care is defined as the sum of all intentional actions you take to care for your physical, mental and emotional health and well-being.
We’re talking here about intentional actions because, as we go through life, we can sometimes forget to take care of ourselves. And it matters that we do.
“Your self-worth has nothing to do with your craft or calling and everything to do with how you treat yourself.” – Kris Carr
Here are some of my favourite self-care practices, perhaps you’ll enjoy trying them out too:
- Getting a massage.
- Taking a warm bath with epsom salt, lavender tea bags or essential oil (for the smell and to help me relax), and coconut oil.
- Journaling.
- Meditating.
- Enjoying a warm tea.
There are many options. What matters is that they help you feel good about yourself and create a safe and healthy environment for you, your mind and your body.
So, what will you do today to increase your self care? The more tired and stressed you feel, the more you should think about taking care of yourself.
Remember, when you are on a plane, should there be a cabin pressure loss, you are asked to put your oxygen mask first before helping those around you. This is the same thing in life. Before you can help others, you should first help yourself.
