Getting in more exercise is a great way to respect and take good care of your body. It is not only excellent for your physical health and wellbeing but emotional health as well. The problem is that all that sweat and exertion can be rough on your skin and hair.

Here are some tips to protect and take good care of your hair, scalp, and skin to prevent such issues.

First Things’ First: Know Your Scalp and Skin Conditions

Current chronic or acute skin conditions

Make sure you are not ignoring current chronic or acute skin conditions you might have.

For example, if you have rosacea, then protecting your skin during and after workouts might differ from someone who does not have this condition.

If you aren’t sure about the scalp conditions you have, consider any unusual itching, burning, or redness you get on your scalp. If you have a lot of itching and redness around your hairline, you may have seborrheic dermatitis.

On the other hand, if you are losing patches of hair around your head, you may have psoriasis or another form of hair loss. See a doctor or dermatologist to get these conditions appropriately treated.

Wear a Headband

Wearing a sweatband around your head and over your hairline during workouts provides many functions. First of all, it is going to protect your face from excess sweating. Many skin types and skin conditions are worsened simply by sweat dripping down your face. The headband helps to stop the sweating and keeps it from running down your face.

Sweatbands can also protect your hair by soaking up the sweating that occurs on your hairline and scalp instead of causing sweat in your hair.

Rinse, But Don’t Shampoo

If you don’t wash your hair every day or every time you work out but still find the sweat a problem for your hair, just rinse it out with water. This helps to remove the sweat but isn’t harsh on your hair or your scalp. Plus, it tends to dry faster than if you went through your entire wash routine.

Shower and Wash Your Face After a Workout

Make sure you are cleansing your skin after a workout! The sweat on your body, under your arms, in your groin area, and on your face can result in bacteria buildup or skin rashes, and it won’t be very comfortable.
